Sylvia

Sylvia is a hands on instructor who emphasizes correct positioning during her routines to make sure that her clients are working on the targeted muscles during the class.  She has been teaching Pilates for over three years and frequently will introduce new movements and blend them in with the traditional Pilates exercises.

Sylvia has been teaching Spine Corrector, Pure Pilates, Pilates Strength, and Kickboxing.  She is available for private sessions and continues her education by taking classes & training with other Pilates and mind/body professionals.  She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Classes I Teach

Spine Corrector

The Spine Corrector provides a great base for doing push-ups, sit-ups, plank, and a variety of leg exercises.  Because the Spine Corrector offers stability and has no moving parts, the body can rely on support for the spine, pelvis or hip when working on it, making it good for therapy use.  I have been teaching the spine corrector class for over 2 years and I love teaching this class because it gives you a whole variety of exercises to do and I can mix it up without having a routine of working the same muscle group.  My favorite exercise is doing the plank at the end of the routine because plank works every muscle in the body and I think it is a great exercise to end with and complete the full body workout.

Pump and Jump

Pump and jump is a class that combines weights with intervals of one to two minutes of cardio work.  Cardio can be in the form of jumping jacks, jump roping, running in place, or even running outside on the stairs when the weather is warm.  I have taught this class in the past and love it because it is a challenge and fast paced.  The motto at Pilates Plus is “where fitness and fun meet” and nothing speaks more to that than the Pump ‘N Jump class.

Pilates Mat

Pilates mat sequence strengthens, stretches, and defines the entire body - focusing the awareness on a stable center.  I have been teaching Pilates Mat for about 2 years and it is fun to teach because it is an education in your body’s awareness.  The benefits of pilates mat go well beyond the studio as when you are going about your business of the day, you are constantly reminding yourself to pull in your stomach and keep your shoulders down.  I love this class because it focuses on the trouble areas for us women and that is the total core.  I have notice with me that I have become extremely tone and my flexibility has increased greatly.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing refers to a group of martial arts and stand-up combat sports based on kicking and punching.  You use punching gloves to strike an object in many different ways and then use different kicking methods to strike a Wavemaster.  I have been teaching kickboxing for about 6 months and enjoy the interaction between using arm strength with leg strength and flexibility.  For this class, you would need to bring sneakers and punching gloves.
