Pole Classes

Pilates Plus of Schaumburg currently offers 3 Pole classes: Two Pole Practice and one Artistic Pole Dance.

Please be on time for the warm up. If you are late, you will be required to warm up on your own before beginning pole work. You may also be required to share a pole. If you are more than 10 min late to the class, the instructor may allow you to observe the class, but not participate.

In all Pole classes, there are two main "rules". Rule #1 is to stay safe and free of injury - so please let your instructor know if you have any injuries or conditions she needs to be aware of that may affect your pole work. She will work with you to provide alternatives where applicable.
Rule #2 is to have fun.

At Pilates Plus of Schaumburg, we use Lil' Mynx poles. Click here to buy your own Lil' Mynx Pole.

Pole Practice

Pole Practice is for everyone. From ages 17 to 71, male or female, and whether you want to  learn gravity-defying tricks or just get a great workout. Each session will begin with 20-30 min of warmup and conditioning exercises. Each session will end with 5-10 min of stretch. The middle 20-30 min are given to the participant to work on anything he/she would like to focus on. Drop-ins are always welcome.

The focus of the warm up and conditioning exercises are to build the strength and flexibility required to execute tricks on the pole with the grace and control you see affected by performers such as Felix Cane, Jenyne Butterfly and Jamilla Deville. These are also great exercises to work on upper back and core strength which will help improve posture and reduce the risk of lower back injury.

The "practice" part of the class is geared to accommodate multiple levels of experience, and allow individuals to focus on working toward their goals. This means that if you are interested in working on a routine, you are welcome to come in and practice it. If you want to learn inversions or work on specific tricks, poses or moves you are free to work on those as well. All you guys out there, come on in and work on your "human flagpole" poses. If you need a bit of inspiration, check out Dominic Lacasse

Please note that there is only one instructor and she does her best to give attention to everyone, but due to the variety of levels in the class, you may need to wait to be spotted. Safety is always the number one priority, so please exercise caution. It's always better to err on the side of caution and be able to practice again the next week, than the alternative.

Artistic Pole Dance

Artistic Pole dance classes are a great way to get an aerobic workout while building upper body and core muscles. Routines are taught in 4-5 week sessions. The routines feature basic pole spins and transitions. All routines are beginner level, however some may feature more difficult moves. In these routines, alternate moves are given provided so you can increase or decrease the challenge.

Weeks 1-3 are self-contained classes where the spins used in that portion of the routine are taught with minimal review from the previous weeks and drop-ins are allowed. During weeks 4 and 5, drop-ins are not allowed without having been to either 2 of the first 3 weeks of the routine. The instructor reserves the right to allow or deny individuals permission to attend the class during weeks 4 and 5. Purchase of all 5 sessions is not required. And, all pricing levels for POLE classes include the routines class.

The schedule for the Artistic pole dance routines/songs is below. The current online schedule will indicate what the current week is for each routine (i.e. Week 1 of 5).

Feb 9 - Mar 8 Rag and Bone by Barry Adamson
This song is fun and flirty with an underlying current of tease. It is playful in a Mother-Goose-fairy-tale-gone-bad sort of way. Think: Little Miss Muffet caught skinny dipping.Of course, we won’t be skinny dipping, but we may frolic around the pole. Basic moves will be taught.
Mar 15 - Apr 12 Desire by Vassy
Up your AQ (Attractiveness Quotient) with this pole routine! Okay, I made the AQ up. But, this sexy and fun routine should at least make you feel like you’re upping your AQ! It’s a beginner level routine inspired by a job-hunters advertisement.
