Get to know massage therapist Mary Pat Payne
Mary Pat Payne is a nationally certified and licensed massage therapist. Mary Pat believes that when two people enter a bodywork session with a shared intent, a place of healing can be created. Healing can feel differently to each client. Some say they have a renewed sense of health and vitality; others feel a sense of deep relaxation and calm, some are able to resolve chronic or acute pain issues, and still others experience an emotional release when muscle tension is released. Mary Pat’s goal is to create a sense of empowerment in her clients, a feeling of balance and harmony that awakens in each an inner resource for healing.

Each session is unique and based on the client’s bodywork preferences, comfort level and health. Mary Pat has found that the most effective sessions are often a blend of different bodywork styles which can include Swedish and deep tissue massage, active assisted stretching, reflexology, positional release, and energy techniques. Massage is a very personal experience and each person’s goals and expectations are unique. By discussing a client’s reasons for choosing massage Mary Pat is able to create a custom session each and every time.
Specialized Massages
Prenatal Massage-- this massage is given in a side-lying position using pillows for support and comfort. Prenatal massage helps to relieve low back pain, sciatica, fatigue and swelling of the hands and feet. Done only after the first trimester of pregnancy, it is a wonderful way to connect with your both your changing body and your baby.
Geriatric Massage-- – as seniors age, isolation is often the most difficult challenge they have to overcome, even more so than physical limitations. Seniors, more than any other age group, experience a lack of nurturing touch in their lives. Massage is a great way for them to connect with another person and to receive the gift of being touched with love and respect. Age related medical conditions are taken into consideration when planning a session and great care is taken not to overburden their systems. Geriatric massage is generally a very gentle massage that lasts no longer than one hour. Please consider bringing a loved one into Pilates Plus to experience a geriatric massage while you enjoy one of the many classes offered.
Alternative Therapies
Positional Release-- A form of bodywork that is done with the client fully clothed. It uses gentle movement and positions to change the stress and pain patterns throughout the body. This non-invasive therapy is very effective in reducing chronic muscle tension, soothing joints, improving circulation, increasing flexibility and relaxing the entire body.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)-- – this is a form of energy work that is done with the client fully clothed. The client taps on well established energy meridian points while consciously focusing on a specific issue. EFT has been very successful with resolving pain, emotional traumas, phobias, cravings and many other issues and clients usually notice a change quickly. The EFT motto is “try it on everything”.
